Do You Want To Appear In PANTERA's 'Piss' Video?
March 16, 2012Right before the official start of the fourth annual Revolver Golden Gods — which will take place Wednesday, April 11, at Club Nokia in Los Angeles — PANTERA will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its landmark album, "Vulgar Display of Power", with the worldwide debut of the band's first music video in 12 years, for the previously unreleased song "Piss", from the "Vulgar" recording sessions. PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott commented, "'Piss' is the only unheard complete PANTERA track in existence. It was recorded at the same time as 'Vulgar Display Of Power' and it's 100 percent PANTERA with attitude and our signature groove! After mixing it, I can't believe it didn't make the record! So it's 2012 and 20 years later and new PANTERA music has been delivered."
According to a posting on PANTERA's Facebook page, the band is now looking for footage of fans "rockin' out and moshing to their favorite PANTERA song... as hard as they can! The fans that shred the hardest will get their mugs featured in the upcoming 'Piss' video. Headbang with your friends, climb the walls of your bedroom, skate around the parking lot where you hang out… however you listen to metal, do it for your iPhone, Android, Flipcam, Bloggie, etc. and send it to us! You must be over 18 to participate.
"Here is what you have to do:
"Submit a video file of you moshing and raging to your favorite PANTERA song. It should just be 1-2 minutes of your absolute favorite song right in front of the camera. Please make sure to state your name and age at the beginning of the video so we can match it with your e-mail."
To upload the video, go to this location.
If your video is chosen, you will be notified via email and given further instructions.
"Piss" will be included on the upcoming 20th-anniversary reissue of PANTERA's "Vulgar Display Of Power", a landmark album widely acknowledged as one of metal's most enduring and influential masterworks. Due out May 15 from Rhino, the CD/DVD set will be available at retail outlets, including Pantera.com and Rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $19.98. A version of the release will also be available digitally.
"Some parts of ['Piss'] were taken for other songs, and at the time, it was the only song that did not make the record," Vinnie Paul told Loudwire. "In PANTERA, we never had songs that didn't make the record. If we were going to write 11 songs, then we'd write 11 quality songs. Some bands write 40 songs and then hope they have nine good ones in the bunch. That sucks. Why not concentrate on writing 9 great ones and forget the 31 others? Anyway, this song, at the time, didn't feel right to go on the record, so we put it on the shelf. . . When I started digging through archives, we were happy with it. It is the only undiscovered complete PANTERA track there ever was and it will be part of the package. It should be cool to hear the first new thing from the band since 2000."
When asked why "Piss" never made it to "Vulgar Display Of Power" even though it was recorded during the same sessions, Vinnie told Cindy Scull of the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks, "I don't know why this song didn't make it on the record. I'll be totally honest with you… After I heard it, it, to me, had the same exact sound and vibe of that record, but maybe it was a little more groovy than the rest of the stuff. And when I say groovy,' I mean, when you hear it, you're gonna die because it's so amazing."
